1) Jesus was traveling through Samaria, and came to a town called Sychar, near a plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, being tired from the journey, sat down by the well. A Samaritan woman came to get water and Jesus asked her for a drink. Why was the woman shocked that Jesus spoke to her?
She hadn't seen Jesus sitting by the well as she approached.
Only women normally went to wells for water.
Jews normally didn't associate with Samaritans.
She assumed an important person like Jesus wouldn't speak to a peasant like herself.
