Bible Verses of the Week

The End-Times

1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!” (NLT, John 14:1–7)

36 “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39 and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. (NRSV, Matthew 24:36–40)

The Bible says Jesus will come again someday, and the world as we know it will come to an end. There will be a final judgment of all people, living and dead. The faithful will receive new spiritual bodies for eternal life; the wicked will be cast into hell. There will be a final defeat and destruction of all evil -- Satan, sin, suffering and death. The kingdom of God will come to its fulfillment at last!

There are many ideas and opinions about the end-times, but the Bible gives very few details of exactly what will happen. Jesus, Himself, said no one can know when it will happen. Instead, the Bible advises us to be spiritually prepared for judgment at any moment and to put our trust in God that He will make everything right in the end.
